Our Story: Doug and Amy Kuzmicki
Our story in Pownal began in 1987 when newly married. Interested in starting our own family, we began looking for a place to settle near the people we cared most about. Having family both in Vermont and Massachusetts made us gravitate to Pownal. When we came upon the Batchelder House B&B we fell in love with it. So risking life and limb and college loan defaults we found a way to purchase the B&B and make a go of it. And so we did. We renamed The Batchelder House to the Inn at Oak Hill B&B and operated as such for about 10 years.
While enjoying our time as hosts of the B&B, life circumstances changed and we were compelled to close the doors of the Inn. We remained living there until 2007 when we decided to build a smaller house nearby. Not bearing to part with the Inn, we began renting it to families on a long term basis, eventually moving towards the short-term AirBnB model we have today.
In 2017, we acquired the adjoining property known most recently as Shamrock Court. Back in the 1930s, the site was called Cherry Court, operating as a Shell gas station, an ice cream parlor, and as a roadside motel renting a series of cabins on the property. Today, together with our neighbors and community leaders, we have begun developing a new vision for the unified site, restoring the original "Cherry Court" namesake to preserve its rich history. While still a work in progress, this venture is very exciting for us and we are working hard to develop a comprehensive plan for the central location - we hope Cherry Court will become the place to be and meet!
